It all started with SMS texting. However, Mxit changed the game when it introduced instant messaging. And ever since then, there has been an influx of instant messaging apps being introduced. But, like the G.O.A.T that Mxit is they did not give up they simply upped their game and withheld their position till they could not.

Super Chat

Mxit worked on almost any phone and tablet, and is tailored to each device. This way, you could enjoy the richest chat and networking experience possible. Enhance your profile with large cover pictures, update your status and keep track of your friends in Newsfeed. Create multiple profiles and easily switch between them, and use their cool Backdrop feature to drop photos into a shared chat background.

Group Chat

The powerful Group Chat let you speak to up to 50 people at once. Your friends could easily invite their friends to the chat too, introducing you to more new people across almost every type of phone. You could easily share photos and sound clips, and with their Chat Tabs, switching between multiple conversations is so quick, you’d never miss out.

Chat Cards

Super-charge your chat! The unique Chat Cards allowed you to grab web content, drop in videos, share music tracks or mix up your chat with jokes and pickup lines to instantly spark new conversations

4. Games

Mxit had a feature where you had easy-to-access to games to either play alone, or with other Mxit users! Enjoy solo or multi-player gameplay in various gaming categories – everything from word puzzles to adventure games.

5. Apps & Content

Mxit made us feel like we could carry the world in our hands – explore, discover and share more about the things we love, with old friends and new one, when we subscribe to the completely localised apps and services that are geared towards us and our community. From sport pages and news, to weather, brands and celebs – there truly is an app for everyone.

Over time, with the introduction of new Messenger app, Mxit slowly lost its 7.5 million users to Whatsapp and apps like it.  Whatsapp had lots of people sceptical when it first began. It was so much like Mxit but with more features. Others say it was a bettered Mxit with a different name.

Send WhatsApp conversation history to someone.

Whatsapp introduced us to sharing conversation. You can send an entire conversation history from WhatsApp, not just screenshot of it, but the entire dialogue. The recipient will receive also the audio and even the visuals of the conversation. This worked for a lot of people when it came to having proof of certain conversations.

Change the WhatsApp chat wallpaper.

Changeable wallpapers were also introduced. We can now have different backgrounds to your chats and it makes things less boring.null

Save photos you’ve received.

Unlike on Mxit we can save images and videos that are sent in WhatsApp chats on to our devices. You can view these images in the Gallery, and can share them on Facebook, apply them as contact photos, and more. This made sharing media more fun.

Make back-ups of your WhatsApp conversations.

If your WhatsApp conversations are important to you, it’s a good idea to make backups of them so that you don’t lose them if there’s a problem with the app. Now this is a feature that Whatsapp creators might have been super excited about. We all suddenly had use for the internet cloud.

Evolves with the app trends

What keeps Whatsapp alive and relevant, is that it keeps up with app trends. When Snapchat came along, Whatsapp had no fear they simply found a way to implement the trend and retain their users. Facebook came up with messenger and that did not cripple Whatsapp because they managed to be cheaper and even faster that Facebook Messenger.

Mxit could have been the now Whatsapp had they followed trends and implemented them in their app design. Michael Jordan former CEO of First National Bank (FNB) believed this he said in 2015 that the reason for Mxit losing its user might have v-been caused by the switch for feature phone to smart phones. He believed that had Mxit acted faster two years before smartphones became a trend that Mxit would be in the same position that Whatsapp is on.
